My triathlon coach has a saying, "Nothing new on race day." Basically, don't wear a new pair of shorts or a new pair of shoes, etc.

I should take this advice when it comes to cakes. Nothing new on cake show day!

I was working on my cake for the That Takes the Cake show here in Austin this weekend. I really didn't feel like making black fondant. It never comes out quite right and it's such a pain with all that black food coloring. So I bought come black Chocopan.


Has anyone worked with this stuff? It was a disaster. Did I get a bad batch? It was completely crumbly and cracking. It just broke into pieces. I'm really disappointed. Luckily, I already had some dark purple made up so I just added some black to that and it worked out. But I'm still really confused about what went wrong with the Chocopan. I'm just going to make my own next time. I've had such good luck with Michele Foster's Fondant. Nothing beats it.
