I have seen GSA selling cake lacquer spray...its not cheap....but...

I have a drum cake coming up where the people would like it to look glossy like a real drum. Also the shoes to look somewhat glossy.

Can anyone with experience tell me if cake lacquer spray is what I would need to get for that effect? What does it do to the cake, does it make a shell, or just a gloss similar to a shiny pearl spray? Its it harmful to breathe or difficult to clean off the countertop?
