I am making about 50 gumpaste roses for a 50th Anniversary cake and am having a problem with the gumpaste sticking to the ball tool. I clean the tool and after I do a couple of petals, it starts to stick to the petals because there are bits of gumpaste stuck to the tool. This happens on the plastic, wooden and metal ball tools. I am using Wilton premade gumpaste but have never had this problem before. Anyone else ever have this happen and did you figure out what was causing it?

Leave it to air dry a little when you have cut out the petals, before using the ball tool. You could also try dipping your tool in cornstarch, or swiping it over one of those dusting pouches, before using it or whenever it starts to stick.

Thanks Dayti. I have been dusting the gumpaste and the tool with the cornstarch and even tried powered sugar. I will try leaving the petals to air dry a bit longer.
