I have an event coming up this weekend that I will be making cupcakes with cream cheese/buttercream frosting. How long can they safely be at room temp before I have to worry about the cream cheese going bad? Thanks!
We leave our cream cheese frosting out all the time at room temp. The amount of sugar to cream cheese/butter inhibits mold and keeps it from spoiling. Ours is made from butter, cream cheese, powdered sugar, a little vanilla and a touch of hi ratio shortening to help with spreadability.
