Hi,
Just looking for some feedback concerning future orders --I have been asked to do a wedding cake for the summer of 2012. Does anyone take orders that far in advance and if so, how do you go about pricing for that cake? Do you simply tell them that's its too far in advance to quote a price?

Thanks in advance!

I just started running into this myself, so I can only tell you what I have started to do. If the client is interested, I pencil them in and let them know their date is held. Then about 12 months away from their date, I ask for the initial deposit. I personally don't want to have their money anymore than a year in advance because my life can change at any moment, as could theirs. Because it is so far in advance, I figure I could always fill their slot if they backed out come deposit time.

I am curious to know how some of the more seasoned cakers out there handle this.

Personally, I do not look at orders that far out. So many vaiables that can happen between now and then.

I try and stay in a 9 month range for weddings.
