Hi all.

Can anyone please tell me what type of red food colouring is used in Red Velvet Cake, as my recipes do not specify whether its liquid, gel, paste or powder!

liquid, however since i don't keep liquid around the house i measure out my water and then add gel colors to it to get the right red.

most recipes use liquid color. I get a big bottle of red food coloring from my restaurant supply store for $1.99 which is much cheaper than the tiny bottle of McCormacks red food coloring for $2.99 from the supermarket. ( I don't know if you get McCormack spices in Australia so I don't know if you know what I mean, sorry)
