When I did a similar beer can one (at least I think you are talking about the same kind of cake). I used a dowel and cut it to stand above the cake. The top of the dowel will be the height of the can. I dyed piping gel to the color of beer (in your case pop) and spread that over the part of the dowel sticking out of the cake. Then placed an open empty can over the top of the dowel. I hope this makes sense.

I did see that one, but I wasn't sure if the mountain dew would look with fondant.

A few questions about the piping gel way.Did u use a clear tube or just a wooden dowel? How did you keep the gel on the down wouldn't it want to slide down?

Thank you everyone. I am pretty sure I can make it but my friend is picking it up and I worry about her driving it an 30-45 min back to her house.
