I'm going to make my first TT cake next week. I have done my research (you tube, reading etc) on how to. Some questions I have from those who do it all the time 1. What kind of knife and what is the best length to use when trimming the layers. 2. Should there be 3 layers per tier. 3. Can you use buttercream instead of fondant. 4 If fondant is better, will the marshmellow fondant work.
Also, does anyone know if there is a mold of a pregnant women available? (she will be sitting on top of a 6"cake.
Thanks in advance for all the response.

I've only made one and it was last week but I was pleased with my first attempt. I used 3 layers per cake. I used a 10/6 to start with. I followed mostly Sharon Zambito's instructions along with a back issue of ACD. I did mine in buttercream. I think my layers were too tall and will make them a little shorter next time. Others can give you more/better advise. Good luck. I am glad that I finally tried one and plan on doing another soon!
