Thanks to the crap they dish up on MTV these days all the teen girls are looking to have a "Super Sweet 16" ... and some families are willing to fork up the cash to make it happen. I'm not even that old (35 y) but I remember back in my highschool years that the quincanera was mainly a Catholic mass held in honor of the 15 yr old girl, with, of course, a punch and cake caliber reception following...anymore they are becoming as elaborate as real (and swanky!) wedding receptions only minus the groom , i guess!
