Hi,
I was wondering if anyone knows how to make a french vanilla cake like Betty Crocker's but from scratch. I am in England and can't find the cake mix or the french vanilla flavour. I have a recipe for a vanilla sponge cake but it is not as soft as the cake mix. What is the difference between french vanilla and vanilla anyway? :s

French Vanilla is a custard (egg yolk based) vanilla flavored ice cream which also incorporated vanilla bean grains:

So a French vanilla cake would be golden (because of the egg yolks) and contain vanilla bean grains as well as extract.
