To be fair, the cardboard is still encased inside of the tin.

I've tried this (the cardboard inside the spring form pan, wrapped in foil, in a water bath, the cardboard was wet

ABake your cheese cake no cardboard. Freeze your cheesecake in the pan. Once frozen hold it over a burner on the stove for a few seconds. Invert onto a cakeboard that is wrapped in plastic wrap. Tgen place the bottom on a regular cardboard and onto a platter that you don't mind giving away or a disposable one.
