My sister's birthday is on Wednesday and she is really into photography... She wants me to make her a cake. I was thinking of making an 8 inch round with a camera sitting on top. I haven't made a carved cake yet and have no idea how to place the camera cake on top of the 8 inch round??? Does the camera portion even need to be supported? It will be covered in fondant... If so- how?

yes the camera part would need supported - you will have to use a cake board to sit under the cake, and a couple of dowels in the 8 inch to support it, and thats all. just like a regular stacked cake really.
although you could also make the camera out of rice krispies, would be lights, although i would still support anyway.

Should I carve the cake board to match the shape of the camera cake?

Thanks brincess!

yep the board should be the same shape as the cake. possibly slightly smaller as there wont be a border to hide it!
