I've always used almond extract for spritz cookies. Has anyone tried using a different flavoring like vanilla or butter? How'd they taste?

TIA

I've always used peppermint or mint extract to my green spritz trees and wreaths and yes used vanilla for some of the other ones. It's sort of choose a flavour to match cookie. ( lemon is great as well!)

Growing up, we always used jello powder for flavoring and color. It's pretty good, especially lime or strawberry.

I just joined this board, but have hunted for years for some new spritz recipes that are yummy! Please share. I have 1 goto recipe that I do as lemon or choc almond, and have also experimented with a coffee maple. I want to try others, I am drooling already! I am very curious about mint or peppermint cookies although orange sounds yummy as do the others.

Thanks,
Sherry

Try the ones on the Wilton website. I make the vanilla and chocolate ones every year, and they go faster than the road runner with the coyote hot on his tail.

This is the recipe I have always used...

Spritz Cookies - TexasSugar

1 1/2 cups Sugar
2 cups (4 sticks) unsalted butter
2 egg yolks
1 tsp salt
1 tsp baking powder
5 cups flour (may need less)
1 tsp orange juice
2 tsp orange rind

Cream sugar and butter until creamy. Add egg yolks, salt, baking powder, orange juice, orange rind, and flour.

Push through cookie press on to ungreased cookie sheets. Bake at 375* until golden brown.

We usually add some red and green sprinkles to the tree and other shapes. On the wreath shapes we use cut up candy cherries in the middle. You can also use M&Ms on the wreath shapes.
