I need to make two cakes for my grandsons baptism on Sunday. One is buttercream and one is fondant. Can I make the buttercream cake tonight? It will have fondant roses on it.

Tomorrow afternoon I am celebrating Christmas, as next week half of my family will be at other locations. So I don't have much time to make these two cakes. I just want to be sure that making one this evening, won't be too far in advance.

It is now Friday at 5:30 p.m. and the cakes will be eaten on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.

No, it should be fine. I would just make sure, if you're not going to frost until tomorrow, after it's cooled its wrapped up until you frost so it doesn't go stale.
