Royal Icing To Buttercream?

I made a large batch of royal icing used to coat cookies. (made with powdered sugar, meringue powder and water) and was wondering if I could add the leftover to butter cream that I am making today. The royal icing is on the thin side. Can anyone advise? I hate to waste!
