Hey, im new to decorating cakes, and i need to help.
one of my friends wants me to make them a cake with fondant and zebra stripes. ive worked with fondant before but on a square cake. Im not really sure how to go about putting fondant on a round cake. and im not really good with zebra stripes. Can anyone give me some tips?
Trust me, if you can cover a square cake in fondant then you'll have no trouble doing a round cake. Getting the corners smooth on a square cake is much harder. Just smooth it out at top first, and keep lifting and smoothing till all the wrinkles are out. Not much different than a square.
I've done a few zebra ones, I just freehand them, but I find I get much nicer affect when i put fondant through a pasta machine. That make it real thin and consistant.
Here's a 2-part video tutorial: http://www.creativecelebrationcakes.co.uk/page49.htm

LOVE it so much!!
Putting fondant on a round cake is much easier then a square cake - so you'll be fine!
Tons of tutorials on youtube too!
My first fondant cake was a zebra cake - it's in my photos on the second page with the teal bow!
All I did was roll out my white fondant - (Make sure it's big enough to cover the cake)
I then took black fondant and rolled it between my hands in almost a worm shape lol (Best to describe it) All different sizes
I placed the black worm shaped stripes on top of my fondant - and rolled it into the white fondant - and placed it on my cake!
I just did my first zebra cake! I thought it turned out really nice!! I didnt want to take any big risks...so i took an easy route! I covered my cake in white fondant then hand cut out pieces of black fondant!! It was really easy to do..plus you could take a step back and look at it...and move pieces if it doesnt look the way you want it to!! take a look its in my photos!
