Hello Everyone I am making a canopy bed made out of cake but the top areas can be either fondant or gum paste the poles. I need some help never done a bed before.
Does anyone know a tutorial or video I can use as a guide.
I am making a cake for someone and they want a specific bed canopy bed.

Thank you

Do you want it to be entirely edible?

If I was doing it I would make the bed out of cake, use dowells as the 4 posts and do the top with a polystyrene sheet cut to size. I would make the head boards out of pastillage.

ETA Did you want drapes as well? I would probably use sugarveil for drapes.

Thank you

I dont want it to all be edible like the poles dont need to be it can be a good way to keep it studry so dowels sound smart to do. Is pastillage hard to work with? I never used it before.

The Crib Cake in my photos is done with pastillage. I found that it dries out quite quickly and it is better to make everything you need at one time rather than use, wrap, use, wrap etc. When I moved the "rails" I had a break occur in each side so you still have to be careful with it though I would think it is sturdier than using gumpaste. It doesn't taste good at all because of the gelatin. If you get ragged edges when cutting you can use sand paper to neaten them.

I think those are all the tips I wish I knew when I did mine...
