I have looked everywhere maybe i am just blind, how do you make a gift box cake with an open lid? I have seen so many and would like to try it.

I bought Boxes and Bows from Sharon Zambito. Best DVD I ever bought!!! I will try to explain how she does it but I recommend buying it she show several different boxes

get gum paste and roll it out. put it over a square pan that has cornstarch on top and shortening on the sides, so the bottom of the pan is up side down. now shape gp over the pan and let dry for a day or 2. when you take out gp it should be really hard and can put over cake like an open lid. hth. I know it's over simplified but that's the main idea
