I'm pretty new to baking cakes and decorating with fondant icing. Can anyone tell me if they know if a cake can hold the weight of fondant? I want to make a nice decorated cake but I also want a delicious cake underneath. Are there rules that certain cakes shouldd not be made with fondant? Please help!

I use mostly doctored boxed cake mixes and they hold up fine. Obviously don't use angel food cake...but everything else so far has worked. Just make sure your fondant isn't rolled too thick, making it extra heavy. If you want to be on the safe side, use pound cake as its more dense than a regualar box mix. Hope this helps and good luck.
