Any help would be appreciated, I would like to use the thin dowels to hold up small pieces of fodant above the cake such as spelling out a name, my question is what kind of paint can I use that would be safe to paint the dowels that I'm inserting into the cake top, I don't want to use anything that could make someone ill or affect the cakes taste, I would like to have them colorful.

I'm hooked on CakeCentral it is so helpful, postings of the finished cakes inspires me to give it a whirl again, I took classes some time ago and have the basics down, but new things have come out since then.
It's nice to see how much you all support everyone and try to help each other out.

you can paint them with food coloring, cover them in fondant, or dip them in colored chocolate.

I use white lollipop sticks. I think they look better than dowels.
