My brother is turning 18 just before Christmas, and he's an unusual sort of fella! So I want to make him something really special. I know he loves chocolate, so I I definitely want the cake to be chocolate but it's the decoration part where I'm stuck.

He LOVES anything horror, and macabre.. so any suggestions would really help, baring in my mind, I'm new and haven't decorated many cakes before.

Well the good news is that you have a theme to go for. Halloween just passed here in the U.S. so there should be lots of spectacular and macabre cakes in that gallery. Maybe rasperry sauce inside the layers to look like blood?
