Hi I was wondering if anyone has had a problem with a cake smelling before. It was fine until I iced it. This is the second time I have noticed it when I use alot of wilton black coloring. It is terrible

this happen to me in the early stages of coloring ...it is the artifical chemical in the coloring that causes a nasty taste. This is true with the red color too.

Try going with another brand. I stay away from frosting when using solid black and use a pre-made fondant from Satin-Ice. It looks so professional and most like the taste.

Could you use chocolate icing that is colored black? Less bitter and better tasting!
