Hi Guys,

Just wondering how I would colour fondant to look like glass? I am making a Smirnoff vodka bottle shaped cake and would like to make it look like glass, rather than just using white.

TIA! icon_biggrin.gif

You can certainly make fondant look shiny or make it shimmer, but it's not transparent...

Here's a link to Smirnoff & bottle from the photo galleries:

If you can post a link to one you like, it'll be easier to advise how to achieve that look. icon_smile.gif

Thanks, heres a link to the photo I've been given:

It looks quite silvery in the photo, so if I can get some silver colouring I could use that, just a bit worried about it turning out looking like elephant skin! icon_confused.gif

Also, any tips on the best 'paint' to use to do the labels would be greatly appreciated!

You get elephant skin the longer you work with the fondant.

I have found you have about 1/2 hour working time to get your cake covered.

I would use "red" color fondant with a "red" luster dust for the labels and white RI for the lettering perhaps with some silver lust dust for highlights. HTH.

Remember it is cake and you want it to look like the item but not necessarily be an exact copy as that can drive you stark raving mad.
