Has anyone ever made a simple band around the border of the cake (1-2") in buttercream versus fondant? If so, what is the best way to go about it and have it smooth and level?

Thanks,

Melanie

i would imagine a lot of practice is needed for it to be smooth and level, but i know it can be done using the flat side of a basket weave tip.

this tutorial for a gift box cake might be what you're thinking about:

instead of masking the bottom, you could mask the top of the cake.
