I am making a baby shower cake that has three levels. I need ideas for different fillings. They all have to be non-refrigerated flavor. I would like different than chocolate and vanilla. Any great combination ideas also.....thanks
There are a bunch of different ways to flavor your standards buttercreamk for a filling- all shelf stable. here are a few I've used:
Almond- Use almond extract in place of vanilla & add almond pastry filling (I use solo)
Espresso- Use Espresso and or Khalua in placre of vanilsaas & milk/ water
Lemon- Lemon exract in place of vanilla & grated lemon zest (this works for orange too)
Strawberry or Raspberry- Use the appropriate extract as well as a little powdered flavored jello.
I pick out a candy bar that sounds good and chop it up and add it to regular old buttercream just to change it up some. Peanut butter cups, M&Ms, Heath, any one will do. I've found that they taste great and people are pleasantly surprised at the crunch/texture.
