Transfer Wilton Fence Pattern Onto Fondant

I am trying to transfer the fence pattern from the below cake onto fondant. According to the directions on Wiltons website I use a toothpick. Do I holt the pattern up against the cake and trace the fence with the toothpick and then go back and pipe it? Sorry to be so brain dead on this one.

I took a look at the pic and the directions and I would assume you're right about the toothpick. Do you have more than just the website instructions? Do you actually have a pattern from a book or something? I would imagine you could use a sterilized needle too if you wanted a slightly smaller hole.
