Does anyone have an answer for butter cream bleeding through a fabric ribbon band on a cake ? It is burgandy, and just spotted and mottled..... I tried a piece of it with butter rubbed all over it, and it was REALLY dark... NOT the color she wanted..... What can I do to save this mess ?

I think most on here put a strip of wax paper on the back side of the ribbon to keep the grease from the buttercream from bleeding through.

If you have some wax paper or parchment paper, you can line the back of the ribbon with it and then apply it to the cake so the grease doesn't soak through.

It is suggested here on CC that whenever you are using fabric ribbon on a cake that you use a layer of plastic wrap or aluminum foil. In other words the plastic or foil will be sandwiched between your frosting and the ribbon.
