When you decorate a cake with fondant handmade flowers, must you put CMC in the fondant?

What is the purpose of CMC?

CMC is used to give more elasticity to your fondant as well as to help your flowers/figures dry quicker and harder.

ditto to what Sheena said. You can also use tylose or Dyocel (its a SA brand)

You can get CMC at chefrubber.com - very inexpensive compared to Tylose.

if i add a little water to the cmc powder, can i use that as a glue?

yes, it will make glue, I find that it needs a bit longer to disolve, so leave mine overnight if I make it with CMC
