I am on the other side today. My daughter was married on Saturday - a friend of the groom's mom made the cake - it was lovely. Question is - what is the best way to wrap the top layer for freezing?

Congratulations to you and your daughter!

You didn't say if the top was fondant covered or buttercream. If it's fondant, I would just wrap in several layers of foil and put it in a large freezer bag. Fondant may not survive the thaw though. If it's buttercream, I would put it into the freezer unwrapped initially to get hard. Then wrap it in plastic wrap and foil, then the freezer bag. That way the icing won't stick to the wrapping. When they go to defrost it, I'd make sure to unwrap it first so the icing doesn't stick to the plastic wrap.
