Just something quick and cheap that I discovered.

Bondo scrapers, like in the automotive section of Wally... they work great to scrape smooth buttercream icing.

Cheap, too.

Try 'em out!

You need to be careful some metal contain lead. You should really stick to cake decorating products.

They're plastic.

In this case, I would have to agree. You have to be careful with products not specifically made for use with food. Since this scraper is not meant to be used with food, you cannot be sure that it is safe, even if it is plastic.

There are still plastics that are not food safe. And if it's made in China I wouldn't touch it. If you ever read posts about people using plastic pipes for cake supports they usually list that they use pipes specifically designed for water to make sure that they are not toxic. They do sell scrapers online designed for cake decorating. Check out fondant source.

so many toys found to have lead in them were plastic too...so being plastic doesnt make it a "given" that they are safe icon_smile.gif
