I was just curious if anyone has tried to stencil on a cake iced with Italian Meringue Buttercream.

This is the icing that I use the most. I have not had a request at all for a fondant covered cake. I know that you can stencil on a cake iced in a crusting buttercream, but I'm not too sure about the Italian Meringue since it is a non-crusting buttercream.

Maybe perhaps if the cake is chilled so that the icing hardens you would be able to stencil on it?

Yep. Chill it. You don't want the stencil to stick to the base, so chill it and then work fast. Might have to stencil in sections, like stencil a bit, then pop it back in the fridge for a few minutes, then continue.

Thanks Rose,

I will have to give it a try sometime whenever I get some stencils.
