Question On Dusts

Are all dusts (Pearl, petal, and luster) edible?

No--not unless they are FDA approved dusts and labeld as such.

The primary brand of edible dusts is Crystal Colors by sugarpaste.com All of their dusts and colors are FDA approved for use on and in food.

Most other dusts are labeled non-toxic. It means it most likely won't make you sick if you eat it, but it isn't made to be eaten. Non-toxic and edible are 2 very different things.

Now that FDA approved dusts are available, I use those on items that will be eaten. I use the non-toxic ones on items that will definitely be removed before serving and NOT eaten and also on dummy cakes.

Wilton's pearl dusts are also fda approved.
