I'm tired of making the same Royal Icing for my cookies. It's the same ole same ole. It's your basic RI. S.P., Water, Mer. Powder, and flavoring.

Anyone have any suggestions?

I like a nice crusting BC, with butter.

Has anyone ever used buttercream to cover the cookie and then add details in royal icing? I usually just do all BC but I need to put the cookies in bags this time and I am afraid of smudging the details if I use all BC.

Alvarezmom--forgot to mention I have used rolled BC for cookies. They tasted pretty good--not as yummy as with all BC, but a different flavor nonetheless!

Try this royal icing recipe - the gum arabic makes it very sturdy so the details like eyes won't fall off. I always flavor it with peach flavoring.

8 cups powdered sugar, sifted 4 Tablespoons meringue powder 1 Tablespoon gum arabic 1/2 teaspoon cream of tarter 2/3 cup water
