I have my very first cake on Saturday afternoon. I can only bake on Thursday night, and start decorating on Friday evening. Are the baked cakes ok wrapped in Saran Wrap on a shelf in a cool room until then? I don't have freezer space.

If you bake on Thursday, and the cake is eaten on Saturday, your cake will be fine. Keep the air away from it until you frost it.

Ok, good. Hotdamn there is so much involved in this! I think my family will be dialing 1-800-walmart from now on.

I have baked hundreds of cakes in my life before starting to decorate. I had NO IDEA how difficult and how time consuming it would be to actually DO cakes: to bake, to decorate. It's a whole new world! Good luck and have FUN!!!

Noooooo!! Walk AWAY from the BIG W.... Repeat after me, you CAN do this!.. you can DO this!!

Just break the process into managable bites. Make the frosting ahead. Baking on Thursday is perfect. Check on supplies, cover board if need be. It's so much easier if you take it in bites.
