I am trying to tint royal icing a dark brown(chocolate) to do scroll work on a wedding cake. I cannot get it dark brown. Can anyone help please. Should I be using something other than royal icing to pipe? TIA

I made black royal icing today for the first time and was VERY surprised at how much colour it took. I find that I have to add a lot of brown to make fondant turn dark too. My advice...just keep adding the colour. Good luck!

I use Hershey's coco powder. I sift it and add to the already prepared royal icing until I reach the shade of brown I want.

thank you for the help. I ended up melting some chocolate and adding it to the royal icing and it turned out a nice chocolate brown.
