Can I Create Color Flow Decorations On Fondant?

I'd like to recreate a rather detailed scene on a fondant-covered cake. I've had good success with color flow in the past - decorations created in advance, let harden, then added to cake/cupcakes. BUT, can I, once my fondant has hardened a little, pipe the color flow right onto the cake?

Thanks so much!

Depending on the color used for the outline, I might be hesitant to pipe it directly on the cake, in case of color bleeding. Fondant can dry on the surface, but not necessarily enough to prevent this.
