How do you affix satin ribbon along bottom edges of wedding cake? How do you make them "meet" tightly?

There are a few threads on the forums about ribbon and buttercream, I dont work with it myself but I have read that you put sticky tape on the back to stop it absorbing the fat and affix with double sided tape
