I have made several tiered cakes, etc. but this will be my first 3d cake using a train mold pan. I'm making my nephew a thomas the train cake. anyone have any tips for me? I plan on making it with pound cake, do I need to use dowels to hold it together, etc? I'm nervous that it will fall apart or tip over.

also, I'm looking for an easy fondant or candy clay recipe to use to make Thomas's face on the cake. something that is user friendly...I have limited experience with fondant. I primarily use buttercream to decorate my cakes.

thanks for any imput

Hi there, I don't make my fondant. I always buy them. Here is a great tutorial on making Thomas the tank engine, but not with a mold.

I just did a Thomas cake using the Wilton 3D Choo choo train pan. It was chocolate WASC and buttercream.

You can PM me with any specific questions.
