This is a year old, but I just heard about it on the new Mythbusters show, Head Rush.

Blue food dye can stop inflamation, thereby helping heal spinal cord injuries. They are also saying that there are no side effects. Another interesting thing for me is that the research is being done at one of our local hospitals.
