hi, i am making a cake for my best friennds babyshower and i'd like to make some stars out of icing and have them poking up out of the cake from wire....i have seen it done alot but dont know how to do it....i think they are made out of some sugar paste or something like like....where can i get it?....any help would be awsome icon_smile.gif

They are made of gumpaste. You can buy it or make it with supplies from your local cake supply or craft store.

you can also use fondant, but i would agree that gumpaste is better.

I use fondant with a little gumpaste or tylose. You can find fondant and gumpaste at Walmart. The wire is found in craft dept. of Walmart. (You didn't show where you're from, so I'm assuming there's a Walmart nearby. Otherwise, you might need to visit a cake or craft store.) Just be sure you don't stick the wires directly into the cakes. I like to bunch 3 or 4 of the wires into a plastic drinking straw filled with melted chocolate. When the choc. sets up, the wires are stable. Then I just stick the straw into the cake.
