One Layer, 'cut Side' Down On Base? Is That Okay?
Decorating By Sandylee05 Updated 21 Aug 2010 , 11:01am by Sandylee05
The bride wants a one layer 12 square on top of a one layer 14 in. square. Can I put both cut sides ( I cut off the rounded top) down, so I have a smooth cake to ice. Normally, I put the cut sides together for a two layer.
Thank you,
Sandy
sure you can. you dont even need a board between them but to make decorating it easier but the 12" on its own board with a few cute bobatea straws in the 14" for support. Plus doing this it will be easier for the servers.

Good suggestion.
I did one similar for a Home Depot Christmas Party. It was a 12x18 on top of an 18x24: http://www.flickr.com/photos/55969028@N00/3091248101/
No boards or dowels betweeen the layers. I just cut the cake like a regular 2-layer cake: http://www.flickr.com/photos/55969028@N00/3091248085/ .
The part of the base cake that was sticking out that was single layer, I cut into 2x2x2" pieces. When I got to the 2-layer part of the cake, I then cut it in 1x2x4" pieces. Here's a pick of cut pieces ..... some are single flavor 2x2x2's; some are 2-flavor 1x2x4's. The 2-flavor pieces went over VERY well! http://www.flickr.com/photos/55969028@N00/3092088610/
>>I've put a cut side down on the board and never had a problem.<<
Oh, yeah! I do too! (dumb me) I just get a little unsure of myself when I do something different.
Thank you everyone for your replies!! You all are awesome!
Sandy
