I would appreciate any hints or tips in how to move up in my cake world by experimenting with flavors for cakes/cupcakes? Should I just start with my base yellow or chocolate cake recipe and add stuff and see how it turns out? I (unfortunately) do not have a culinary school background to understand the complex science behind it but I don't want that to stop me! Thanks

This is a link I've used. So far I've tried White/yellow, chocolate, Kahlua and Strawberry cake. Next will be the red velvet and pink champagne.
