I made a baby shower cake for my nephews wife's shower for Sat. The cake was baked Thursday and covered in buttercream Thurs night. MMF made Thursday night and covered the cake Friday.....which is when it started to rain and the humidity was AWFUL!!! Drove 4 hrs in the rain w/the cake in the car...car was very cool (my poor mother)...cake went into another house overnight - someone who doesn't keep theirs as cool as mine...then back into the car on Saturday (again, very cool in the car but the humidity was awful again)...for another hour to the shower.

I start to cut the cake and OMG! The fondant was just pure GUM!!! I was sooo embarrassed. Had I been someone who ordered that cake I would have wanted a refund. The fondant was so gummy that I was able to just peel half of it off in one sheet and it didn't take the icing with it!!

I have never had this happen before. It was totally sticky and I don't want it to happen again. Does anyone have any suggestions to outwit the weather - which I'm assuming was my problem - alonq with the various ranges of temp the cake endured? Although none were what I would consider warm.

Thanks!
Kellie
