I was wondering if anyone had any ideas on how to make an armadillo cake like how to get the body shape? That seems to be the hardest thing to figure out. I'm just looking to one for about 10 people so I'm looking for small. Any suggestions would be great!
I'd start with oval layers and cut them diagonally as shown.
then stand on edge. by using different size ovals could even get closer to basic shape.
then carve and even use cake spackle (trimmings mixed with BC -- similar to cake balls but higher amount of BC) to get the final shape.
then lay on with the fondant and RKT for head, feet, tail.

Jeez I don't really know but I gotta tell ya the first thing I thought off was "Steel Magnolias" remember the groom's cake??? LOL
Thanks for all the great tips and help! It is really appreciated. and yes it is totally about "Steel Magnolias"! It's for a friend's wedding and our moms referred to their group of friends as the Magnolias!
My dd and I made this cake a few weeks ago and we carved it from sheet cakes. and used a cupcake for the head.
It is all cake.

That looks awesome! Good Job! Thanks for your tip also! I appreciate all the input!
you are very welcome. My dd is the designer on these animal cakes. She will Google what ever it is she wants to make, then study it so she gets every detail down. She has been an artist since she was big enough to hold a pencil. Now she is putting it to use for cakes, and everyone loves them.
