I have a wedding cake due next Sat I'm using the clear plastic texture sheet on 2 of the tiers, it's a paisley design. Since I have never used them before I practiced on a smaller cake last night and the fondant would stick to the sheet! I dusted some cornstarch over the sheet and tried again, it helped a little but when I tried to peel off it just stretched the design and looked like crap. I thought about putting a layer of shortening but I don't want a shiny look to the fondant. I have also heard of people covering the cake in fondant then pressing the design in, but I think I would have to press too hard and the plastic doesn't bend well so it wouldn't be a uniform design......does anyone have any suggestions? TIA
Maybe if you let the fondant sit for a minute and get a little hard and then dust the sheet with cornstarch before you try to do the impression it will come off without sticking.
