Just because we found a wacky recipe for something, does it mean we have to use it? icon_wink.gif lol (sarcasm never types well!)

scientifically speaking according to the recipe, I dont think you could use liquid.

why: recipe.. When you put the candy in your mouth, the sugar dissolves, and the citric acid and baking soda combine,

It sounds as if you need the crystals. maybe they dont melt completely at the temp given. if you add liquid it might react immediately.. which could also be fun!!

the quickest place to get them in at a liquor store that sells homebrew supplies. THey are like $3.50 a container.

Hubby homebrews or i would have no idea, except from cake supply shops.

amazon sell them, too. and shopbakersnook.com

ther eare some home brew kits at my grocery store! I will check there!

Will it be called Citric acid crystals?

motherofgrace Posted 6 Aug 2010 , 11:06pm

ok got the citric acid!

Now just one more question.

In the recipe it calls for " a small about of water and a small amount of corn syrup"

How much should I use? I was thinking a tbsp of both.

motherofgrace Posted 7 Aug 2010 , 4:54am

Anyone???

mamawrobin Posted 7 Aug 2010 , 5:02am

I don't know...but I'm glad to have the recipe..thanks icon_smile.gif I love pop rocks.

nancyg Posted 7 Aug 2010 , 5:04am

where did you get the citric acid????

motherofgrace Posted 7 Aug 2010 , 5:09am

I got it at a winery, but I heard you can order it from the pharmacy!

I put in about 3 tbsp corn syrup and 1/4 water... we will see how it goes!

Babs1964 Posted 7 Aug 2010 , 5:10am

I've seen citric acid at our pharmacy too.

motherofgrace Posted 7 Aug 2010 , 5:12am

I just really wish they wrote out the recipe with the proper measurments!!

*sigh* we will see how it goes

redpanda Posted 7 Aug 2010 , 5:17am

I have purchased citric acid in the spice or Kosher foods aisles in the grocery store. The label says "Citric Acid" and under that "Sour Salt".

motherofgrace Posted 7 Aug 2010 , 5:50am

ok first batch resulted in a " burning" tounge sensation lol

This time im going to try a regular hard candy recipe with the baking soda and citric acid.
