2 things: first, best way to firmly make the top square part on a Grad cap using fondant? (its probaby going to be 6x6"), second, how should i go about making the Talis?

I make the top square part out of a cake board and cover it with fondant.

square top: use gumpaste or pastillage to cut a square. it needs to have time to dry on a sponge (porus) for several days or over a week if possible.

use a clay extruder to make the tassle.

I made one of foam board covered in fondant. It was light, but did not sag or bend.
