How Did I Mess Up This Buttercream?

I was trying a new buttercream recipe. I think it's IMBC. Egg whites, sugar, butter, vanilla... anyway, it was perfect. I stopped the mixer to add the vanilla and when I turned around the beautiful buttercream looked like cottage cheese. What did I do wrong and is there any way to fix it?
