Has anyone ever done a spiral tiered cake?

I have instructions from Berecca here on cc for her spiral hiker's cake. I am looking for any suggestions/tips anyone can give me. I am making a spiral wedding cake in October-the client saw one made by a gal from Alabama in a 2009 ICES newsletter.

Thanks!

Hmm, I may be able to help. I did a hiking cake with a spiral path carved into it, it's in my pictures. If that is what you're after, ask away. I will tell you that I had to start with cakes about 25% bigger than what I ended up with - as you have to carve away so much of the cake. So be sure to price it on the high side. A neat look though, to be sure.

ok, here goes:
looking at your spiral hiking cake, how many separations do you have? And how tall are each of your cake tiers? ie- do I have to make my cakes a bit taller, as well as wider to get the correct look?

The wedding cake I am doing will be 4-5 tiers. Did you carve each tier separately, then stack? Any tips on stacking?

I'm excited for this challenge, yet scared!! icon_surprised.gif

thanks bunches!
