How about adding some detail with black icing or fondant, to give it a 3D look? HTH

I would use *something* not sure what, to make curved line indentations on the body and add the antennae.. Good luck!

I agree adding some black would give it some dimension, if you are going for a more whimsical look you could stripe the body with 2 different colors and pipe the edges with one of those colors, adding the antenna's will make it look different too.

I am also working on butterflies, they are giving me fits too, It was a last minute thought to add them to the cake I am making for my niece, so instead of fondant, I thought about just making some from laffy taffy and some other candies, i have no idea if it's going to work or not. I also have a back-up plan too, I did make some from royal icing, so if they dry in time I may end up using those.
Happy cakin' tonight!!

FYI: Butterflies don't have antennae, moths do.

Every butterfly I that I get instructions for, to make have antennae, I ordered edible butterflies from Jen Dontz and she sent me antennae's with them and she also sent the instructions, I also bought the gelatin butterfly book and those butterflies, have antennae.

Edited to add: butterflies does have antennae.

You could paint a couple pieces of spaghetti with food colouring and stick
them in for antennas. Ditto on using a black outline too!!
